- Australia has one of the strongest economies in the world, reaching a budget surplus of $8 billion—one per cent of gross domestic product (GDP)in
2003-2004. The Australian Government’s net debt fell by $6.2 billion in 2003–04 to $23.4 billion.
- Australia’s inflation rate has been stable over the past decade (in 2003–04 was just 2.4 per cent).
- From 1990, Australia’s productivity has been growing at an average annual rate of over 2.3 per cent and the mall business sector accounts for 58 per cent of employment growth over the past six years, generating about 30 per cent of Australia’s economic production.
